It’s Peter, tonika health’s acupuncturist. I hope you’re all well and staying warm with this chilly winter weather. Is it just me or does it seem to be more of a doozy than usual? Colder temperatures and more colds/flus going seem to be going around. Don’t get me wrong, I love winter. But I think it’s safe to say than none of us are fans of feeling run down.

I want to tell you all about a simple, yet little known, technique that I love to ensure that you can enjoy winter in all it’s glory. I.e. cozying up on the couch with a warm mug of tea, a big blanket and the latest Netflix movie. Without the pile of snotty tissues and cold medication next to you! In fact, it’s a technique that I’ve shared with you before (on this blog). But I love it so much that I want to share it again. So, what is it? Massaging your ‘immune zones’.

My number 1 tip for winter…massage your Immune Zones

Your immune zones are certain areas on your arms that are excellent for your immunity. Especially related to your throat, tonsils and gut. (Fun fact – these were identified in the 20th Century by a famous Japanese acpuncturist, Master Nagano). Massaging these points has many beneficial effects. One of the main benefits is increasing your body’s natural healing abilities by stimulating blood circulation in the upper respiratory tract. This strengthens your immunity and helps guard against getting sick, or recovering more quickly if you do fall ill.

Simply stimulate these points on each arm daily by massaging them with your thumb for about 30 seconds a few times each day. And longer if they’re sore!
