Amy Forth

Hi all, It's Amy, tonika health's resident acupuncturist. I'm coming to your inboxes today with some bitter sweet news. I'll soon finish working at tonika health. It's truely been such a wonderful and beautiful place to work, treat and collaborate. However, I recently took on the role of director at an acupuncture clinic in a new hospital. While I hoped I could continue practicing at tonika health, I've recently realised that the new role is a much bigger job than initially anticipated! And I may have bitten off a little more...

Hi all, it's Amy (aka resident acupuncturist) coming to you again. You know that age old saying of soup being good for the soul? I honestly believe it's true! The cooler months are often a time when we can start to feel a little low on energy and not have quite the same mojo that we had over summer. In winter, it's completely appropriate to take some time out, rest more, slow down and do less. And sometimes, we can feel like we just don't have enough juice in the tank to get through...

Hello! It's Amy, tonika health's resident acupuncturist. Who else has been feeling a little chilly in this winter weather? As a Chinese Medicine practitioner, I can’t help but think about how the external environment affects us. And I love how we can use the dynamics of each season to better our health. By tuning in to what your body needs this winter, you can help nourish your body, mind and soul. So, winter wellness…it can be a challenge. Colds and flus are everywhere. Most people have bouts of feeling low on energy, run down, flat and even a little depressed. It's...

Being a little blocked up never feels good, BUT there are ways to naturally increase your chances of having really good bowel movement and support your digestive health. Here's how!   1. Try acupressure (or acupuncture if you need a stronger effect) If you aren't pregnant, use this acupressure point between your index finger and thumb, close to where the two fingers join (called Hegu or Large Intestine 4). It'll help stimulate peristalsis to help get your bowels moving. If you are pregnant, try this acupressure point instead (called Large Intestine 10). 2. On waking, have warm water with...

Hey there! It's Amy, tonika health's acupuncturist. Recently, I've been treating clients who are experiencing anxiety. Did you know that summer, joy and your heart are all related according to Chinese medicine? And that anxiety is often tied into this equation? According to the five element theory in Chinese medicine, everything in the natural world is made of five elements - fire, earth, water, metal and wood. In the body, these elements correlate to organ pairs. For example earth relates to the spleen and stomach. All of these have their own energy pathways, called meridians, that also relate to emotions and...

I've seen hundreds of IVF patients over the years and everyone wants the same thing…SUCESS.  But how do we get this? Patients must navigate a sometimes tricky terrain of IVF treatment, which often involves a steep learning curve. Here are a few things I've learnt from patients and how they've achieved success. (In this case, success is making a baby, staying sane and healthy, and enriching the relationships you have around you while undergoing IVF). 1. Choose a specialist carefully Of course, you say. It's like choosing someone to work with on...
